I love the optimsm Big D!!!! I think our pitching has done a pretty good job this year!! I feel the hitting and coaching has let the team slip. The hitters do not hit opposite field when the situation calls for it or when they are down in the count. They still try to pull everything over the fence. Our hitters are to impatient. The coaching refuses to play baseball with any strategy. I have never seen the coaches ask any hitters to bunt with men in scoring postion and 0 outs. We have so many runners stranded and have not been able to come up with hits with men in scoring position--"Tigers threaten but do not score!!!" You say so yourself. Until the coaches ask the players to sacrifice (pun intended!!) we will continue to squander great scoring chances. I know it is not popular in the American League but it works for the Angels and Twins and their coach has no problem getting them to sacrifice for the good of the team. I hope you are right about the future...Go Tigggggers!!!!!

Hi Bobby,

Just a quick note on Ernie Harwell's book "Diamond Gems". My daughter bought me his autographed book for my birthday and I just love the story on Nolan Ryan and Norm Cash.
Ryan was pitching a no hitter on July 15th, 1973 at Tiger Stadium. Ryan struck out 17 Tigers that day. Norm Cash came to bat and sent back to the dugout by the umpire because his bat was illegal. Cash told Harwell later, "I wasn't gonna hit the gut anyway, so I went up to the plate with a leg off the table in the clubhouse." This is why I love baseball. God Bless Ernie, Nolan, Norm and Apple Pie. WHEN BASEBALL WAS FUN and DIAMOND GEMS are in my library.

I only met Cash one time at that was at the Fox and Hounds in Birmingham. A great and fun guy.

Happy Ttrails,

Jerry Richards.

BOBBY HOEFT II did a fine job showing the family side of SCOTT. To bad the
Detroit Media hasn't caught that side of him yet. We think this great young
likeable guy will be the Tiger's second sacker for about fifteen more years.
The same for AUSTIN JACKSON and ALEX AVILA.

LEE...finally! I've found someone who feels the same way as I do about those
pajama bottom "ridiculous" baseball pants. According to my research the
nasty habit started with the advent of bringing in latinos from the islands.
I guess because it's literally "cooler" !!

I've got to agree that those pants that go all the way down to the heels look ridiculous. I like the high socks look.

As for Cabrera, he seems more focused this year. In the past, he seemed to throw away too many at bats. This year, it looks as if he is prepared for every plate appearance. I think he is primed for a monster year.

Patience! Patience! Bobby --The pitching staff is shaping up well and should be more productive than last year. The hitters will come along and the team should be a top competitor in the Division. Unfortunetly the Yanks are the best team money can buy and will probably walk off with the Grand Prize in October.

Yes Pete, we are aware of the "union consent" being essential but the union and the players
have see that they are not playing on an even field. It's still APRIL and already some weaker
teams have drawn less than 10,000! The sharing revenue idea won't work.

Only a salary cap will do it, as it has already with the NHL, NBA and the NFL. ONLY A
SALARY CAP WILL SEW UP STEINBRENNER'S POCKETS.

Either that or we will slowly watch MLB fade into the sunset of gluttony.

Wouldn't be easier to institute 100% revenue sharing between the 30 teams in MLB? Salary caps require union consent in the collective bargaining process.
