THE BOOK: WHEN BASEBALL WAS FUN…

In 1940, Bobby Hoeft, a ten year old farm boy in Northern Michigan,
had a dream. In the rolling hills of Moltke Township, six miles west
of Rogers City, where German was the language and the Potato was the
King, he dreamed of wearing the proud English “D” of the Detroit Tigers.

When Baseball Was Fun recounts Bobby’s adventures as he chases that
dream. Travel with him inside the Pony, Kitty, Cotton States and the
Northern Leagues. Meet the World Famous Babe Ruth and his wife, Claire,
Joe DiMaggio and Hank Greenberg. Meet also the astonishing Esther
Williams, Lena Horne (did she have a crush on Bobby) and Charles Bronson.
You will also meet some of the most rough and tough old school baseball
players of all time and experience these rollicking adventures where a “pitch
count” and talking to the other team was a nasty joke. Yes indeed, it was
another time in the history of Baseball. Just ask Bobby.”
