OUR TAKE ON THE 2012 TIGERS…

It’s going to be all about pitching. And Tiger fans that ain’t bad!
We believe that Dave Dombrowski might do some careful tweaking with the staff.
BUT NOT MUCH…as they stand right now, HERE’S THE FOUR BIG HORSES:
JUSTIN VERLANDER…2011 MVP & CY YOUNG AL AWARD WINNER…..Enough said;
DOUG FISTER…He’s an excellent #2 man who will grind out around 18 victories and a ton of innings;
MAX SCHERZER…He’s actually our #2 in disguise…look out for MAX;
RICK PORCELLO…He’s just 23 and and won 15 last year and might do better this year. HE JUST MIGHT
BE A SUPER STAR, just waiting to happen.
An interesting stat about our big three…THEY’RE STILL IN THEIR TWENTIES!

And now for the tweaker. Dombrowski and owner , Mike Ilitch might decide to ride the rapids with
three left handers from their deep farm system: DUANE BELOW, DREW SMYLY and ANDY OLIVER.
They’re all hard throwing kids and ready to break out. Who will it be? Oliver seems to be the best bet.
He’s already tasted starting with the Tigers and is more ready than the other two, although Below was
also given a shot. But, with a name like SMYLY , the media would have a field day. So who will it be.
Spring Training will give us the answer but we think ANDY OLIVER will be our #5.

The rest of the team is ready. JIM LEYLAND can make out the lineup card right now. In 2011 they
proved they can score runs and we have confidence in their defense as well. We predict another
championship year for the guys who wear the english “D” !

  1. Hey Bobby- Thanks for the wake up call! It’s hard to believe that the start of another season is just a few weeks ahead. It seems like only yesterday that the Cards were putting the Ranger’s aspirations for the title into a bad dream.
    Looking forward to 2012 I would be very happy if the team as a whole would equal last year’s performance. I would have liked to see Mr. D. land Ramirez to fill the 3rd base spot but that was not to be. I will continue to hope that Leyland come to the obvious conclusion he has to fill the lead off spot with a player that actually hits the ball and gets on base.
    As for pitchers what more can you ask for other than a solid left hander to fill out the roster. Hopefully one of the three you mentioned will fill the bill. Adding to your comment on the media’s play on Smly’s name I think “Below” could inspire some creative writers. If either or both of these youngsters make the cut the Tiger think tank should come up with baseball appropriate nicknames to take the sting out of the fans dealing with “Duane and Drew”.

  2. Charles…you shoulda’ been a baseball writer…YOU MISSED YOUR CALLING!
    They did miss on Ramirez but DAVID WRIGHT IS STILL AVAILABLE!! They
    might make a move on WRIGHT because he’s another GEHRINGER…Just wind
    him up in Spring Training and leave him alone until the World Series. Would
    that be nice for JIM LEYLAND or what?

  3. Wow, Bobby!

    I feel like I’m in Comerica, reading this. You make the season come alive in the middle of winter. Thank you. We’ll see if that crystal ball of yours needs new rabbit ears. I think you’re getting pretty good reception myself. I’ll stay tuned.

  4. TOM…Thanks for your kind words…”make the season come alive” are words that make my day
    “come alive”. Now if the Tigers just win another one for the boys around the hot stove. Garza
    would be a great start!
