DAVID FREESE: YOU JUST BECAME A LEGEND!

It just took one swing of his right handed stick for the Cardinal’s 3rd sacker, DAVID FREESE, to enter
into the sanctuary of MLB’s HALL OF LEGENDS. It was the bottom of the 11th inning of a tied
9-9 game in the 2011 WORLD SERIES between the CARDS & RANGERS. The date was actually
very early in the morning on Monday , OCTOBER 28th, 2011, of a game started the night before. David
Freese was not the hitting star of this Cardinal’s team. And yet in hiis previous time at the plate with
two men on and the Cardinals trailing by two runs with two outs he smashed a two run line drive triple
off the right field wall to knot the score and force extra innings.

And here he came again only this time leading off the bottom of the 11th with the score tied 9-9 and
S M A S H ! ! his long drive landed on the grassy knoll just behind the center field wall! GAME OVER!
CARDS 10-9 VICTORS!!

Today as I sit here in CHELSEA VILLAGE, I can’t help but look with envy at FREESE’S feat thinking
with wonder at all of the ramifications of it all. He will ALWAYS be remembered for what he accom=
plished with just one swing…he will go into the hall of fame with just that one tremendous clout….
he will be looked at in awe by his fellow MLB players, especially by them who all share his feelings
of knowing how miraculous his mighty swing was….and THE FANS! These fans who were there to
witness it and the millions of fans around the world who did likewise all screaming with joy, except
for Ranger’s fans crying their hearts out, all will remember DAVID FREESE’S blast into the heavens of eternal memory. And then there’s a died in the wool Tiger’s fan like myself, plus having played professional
baseball…WHAT DO I THINK? WRAP YOUR ARMS AROUND IT DAVID, FOR IN THE REAL WORLD OF
MLB YOU MIGHT END UP STRIKING OUT THREE TIMES TONITE. YEP…ENJOY IT DAVID NOW.

HOW DO YOU SPEND 23 MILLION BUCKS ??

Yep…23M is the amount that the Tigers will have to spend after CARLOS GUILLEN (13M) and MAGGS (10M)
wave goodbye. TWO MONSTER GOOD GUYS! That said, lets get back to today’s 23 million dollar question.
WBWF feels that their leadoff spot was HORRENDOUS!! It produced just under 200K’s plus a bushel
basket full in the post season. All season long we moaned & groaned about AUSTIN JACKSON’S horrible
leadoff numbers only to see him stay in the leadoff spot where with two strikes on him he was DEAD MEAT!
Jackson’s fantastic glove has to remain in CF but NOT in the vital leadoff roll. Finally the Detroit media writers
are catching on and their anti leadoff stories about Jackson are in hi gear. We’ll see if the stubborn manager
will move Austin down in the order. Spring training should be interesting.

The obvious conclusion to this story is: WHERE DO WE FIND A QUALITY LEAD OFF GUY? We found the
answer, at least one of ‘em, when the free agent name of SCOTT POSEDNIK jumped out of our computer.
In our book he’s one of the best leadoff hitters in MLB. He’d love the Tigers and they would get him for
just a small hunk of that 23 million. The point is: BRING IN A NEW PROVEN FIRST UP HITTER! There are
others besides SCOTT just ready to wear the english “D”.

Where do the Tiger’s spend the rest of their 23 million? Where’s there weak spots? How about a back
up catcher like PUDGE RODRIGUEZ, who would welcome the opportunity as a free agent. A back up catcher
is a good idea and one that MR. “D” is well aware of.

This team might look at long relievers. To depend on ZUMAYA is not the answer. On the free agent hot
line there are several names, good ones, that pop out. The back end of the pen is in good shape. It’s
the long end that needs some dependable help.

That’s our two cents worth or you might say 23M dollars worth. What’s your’s??

WHY HAS THE TIGER’S OFFENSE DRIED UP?

Just when we’re fighting for a World’s Champioship the Tiger bats fall fast asleep. WHY?
Maybe it’s because their missing some important bats,, like for example:
BRENNAN BOESCH’S big left handed stick…it seems like his injury has been all but forgotten;
CARLOS GUILLEN, his switch hitting ability HAS BEEN FORGOTTEN;
MAGGLIO ORDONEZ, just when he was going 100% , he’s gone FOR THE WHOLE YEAR!;
ALEX AVILA, his inability to hit is a total loss to the offense;
DELMAR YOUNG, had THREE taters against the yankees and was injured (Q. why even play him???);
AUSTIN JACKSON, had 3 hits in one game and a zillion K’s in the rest. Are you as sick as I am hearing JIM
LEYLAND tell the media that: “As he (jackson) goes so goes the team. He’s our catalyst.” That’s just dumb.
He might be a jump starter for the team when he’s not striking out, but he K’d 191 times! Third in MLB!
Of course he’s no catalyst. The Tigers won about 60 games in spite of his strikeouts. Please, Leyland remove the pressure from off of this young star’s shoulders and hit him 7th ot 8th.
VICTOR MARTINEZ, hit .330 during the season and then came up limping for the post season. He’s only
running on two cylinders.

Now if the above factors will not knock the bejabbers out of your offense nothing will. This not hogwash.
These are the facts.

AMY BETH, YOU CAN BREATH NOW!

Our daughter, the marathon runner, who even ran in the Boston M, when asked to predict the score
of the Tigers 3-2 victory over the Yankees said, “I’m too scared to do it.” But not our Tiger anylist, Chuck
Milhem, from Arizona, who used his crystal ball and wrote: “The Tigers will score two runs in the First inning
and go on to win it 4-2.” WOW. He came close to hitting it right on the head!

It’s history now but I don’t know about you but I cherished the moments where Jeter went down swinging
to end the third game and then to make my moment even sweeter THE GREAT A-ROD copied Jeter and he
too went down swinging at a 95mph VALVERDE fast ball to not only end the last game but the short
five game series as swell! Now, tell the truth Tiger fans didn’t that make your dreams a little sweeter
last night.

After the Tigers went down in the top of the ninth I knew who was due up for the bad guys in the bottom half of the last inning. GRANDERSON, first up. Please , I prayed, don’t let our old friend beat us. Curtis
then popped out to left. Then the last hitter for the Pin Strippers was the billion dollar man who had
already struck out twice…and Valverde made it three!! Ball players call it the KLU-KLUX-KLAN…THREE
K’S ! Take that to bed with you all winter A-ROD!

And, so now it’s Texas. What’s your predictions? In a seven game series I think the acquisition of DOUG
FISTER and the one two punch of the Dominican Twins, BENOIT & VALVERDE will make the difference.
I like VERLANDER, FISTER & SCHERZER as our starters to silence the big bats of the Rangers. The Tigers
in six.
