FINALLY, THE TIGERS SEE THE PROBLEM.

Those of you who regularly read this web site will remember how we
protested the use of the kid, Austin Jackson, as their leadoff hitter.
We called attention to the most glaring of all his weaknesses
was his inability to lead the pitcher into taking him deep into the count
and then swinging at bad pitches to strike out.The ideal leadoff hitter will draw many walks as a part of his role. On top of that was his refusal to listen to management and bunt more often and thus use his
blazing speed.
So now listen to a story appearing in the DETROIT NEWS today (8-29-11) by Tom Gage: “Austin Jackson led off Sunday’s game with a walk, just the eigth time he’s done that this season!
First at bats have not been Jackson’s forte this yeasr. He’s .200 in his
first at-bat with 39 STRIKEOUTS in only 105 at-bats and just 16 runs.
Last year he hit .333 in his first at=bat wityh just 25 K’s and 34 runs.

“We have to keep working with him to get better at leading off
the game,” Leyland said.

We ask HOW/ HOW DO YOU DO THAT?? We say M O V E H I M. He
would be an outstanding 6th or 7th batter!

AUSTIN JACKSON DOES THE IMPOSSIBLE!

I have seen great offensive plays while watching the Tiger’s perform over the past 60 years. Let’s see, there was JIM NORTHRUP’S booming
triple to beat Bob Gibson and the Cards in the ’68 series, and, HANK
GREENBERG’S grand slam to wrap up the ’45 pennant, and, MAGGLIO
ORDONEZ’ long Tater to put away Oakland for the ’06 pennant, BUT, here comes AUSTIN JACKSON performing a DEFENSIVE MIRACLE, arguably the greatest defensive gem in Tiger lore!

The Cleveland Indians were the opponents on a beautiful Sunday after-
noon in August of 2011. They were clawing back after suffering a 7
run 3rd inning from our guys. AND THEY WERE ON THE VERGE OF DOING IT! In the top of the 9th against our closing ace, JOSE VALVERDE going for his 37th straight successful finish, they managed
a walk, a hit batter and a sacrifice bunt placing the tieing run on 3rd and the potential winning run on 2nd. That sets the stage for JACKSON’S booming cannon! Every Tiger fan thought the Indian’s would
accomplish at least a tie. The hitter drives a Valverde 95mph fast ball
out to center where JACKSON is prowling. The drive stays in the air long enough to give AUSTIN time to line up a rifle shot to catcher, ALEX
ALIVA. The ball arrives just in time for the tag completing an unheard of double play. The fleet Japanese outfelder is OUT! And the Tigers win 8-7!!! Every Tiger fan today should be saluting our hero, AUSTIN JACKSON!!
