In our last posting we talked about the coming bright future for our Tigers.
In this morning’s DETROIT NEWS, Lynn Henning, one of the best baseball writers
out there, writes about why the Tigers will soar in seasons to come: “it will be
thanks to pitching-starting pitching-which has begun to mesh in happy fashion.
JUSTIN VERLANDER, MAX SCHERZER AND RICK PORCELLO.
‘THAT COULD BE A BIG THREE’ said JIM LEYLAND. ‘THEY’VE GOT YOUTH ON THEIR
SIDE…THEY’RE YOUNG GUYS WITH POWER, TALENT and CONFIDENCE GOING FOR
THEM. And we will wscore runs, too.’
It’s imposing firepower-if the three, all first round draft picks, stay healthy and develop
into a winning pitching trifecta the Tigers believe they have.”
How about the 4th and 5th starters Lynn? We believe that’s the real key. In our story
we dive right in there, because we feel two power pitchers down on the farm play a huge
role in the Tiger’s fabulous future … and they are JACOB TURNER and ANDY OLIVER!!
Here’s two more first rounders and folks we’re going back to JIM LEYLAND’S words after
he watched them pitch during spring training to describe these two phenoms; ‘LIGHTS
OUT’ were his exact words.
The reason that I’m so excited is because all of baseball agrees with MR. BASEBALL, CONNIE
MACK, when he said that “pitching is 80% in the success of a MLB team” and that is why
Tiger fans, FASTEN YOUR SEAT BELTS BECAUSE THE TIGERS ARE ABOUT TO GO “LIGHTS OUT.”

I love the optimsm Big D!!!! I think our pitching has done a pretty good job this year!! I feel the hitting and coaching has let the team slip. The hitters do not hit opposite field when the situation calls for it or when they are down in the count. They still try to pull everything over the fence. Our hitters are to impatient. The coaching refuses to play baseball with any strategy. I have never seen the coaches ask any hitters to bunt with men in scoring postion and 0 outs. We have so many runners stranded and have not been able to come up with hits with men in scoring position–”Tigers threaten but do not score!!!” You say so yourself. Until the coaches ask the players to sacrifice (pun intended!!) we will continue to squander great scoring chances. I know it is not popular in the American League but it works for the Angels and Twins and their coach has no problem getting them to sacrifice for the good of the team. I hope you are right about the future…Go Tigggggers!!!!!
