When Baseball Was Fun

Companion web site for the book and Detroit Tigers Quarterly

THANK YOU MR. GREINKE!

The Tigers had to face the unbeatable ZACK GREINKE of the Kansas City Royals
five times this year while those nasty Minnesota Twins had not faced him at all…
that is until yesterday. And he clobbered them! He sent those pesky Twins
to Comerica Park in a foul mood for a mini world series of four games beginning tonite.
Also, please note that Greinke will pitch against Minnesota one more time this Friday
nite at the ugly Metrodome. This might prove to be an important adventure.

So, who will win the Central? The Tigers will. Why? They have a two game lead and
on paper they have the better starting pitching…that is until Thursday when Nate Robertson goes to the hill. He imploded Saturday against the White Sox showing his
total ineffectiveness and still he gets chance after chance after chance. It’s all
about $$$$$$$$$$$. Management completely overlooked his past numbers when they
signed him to a long term contract worth millions. FOLKS, HE’S ALWAYS BEEN A LOSER
WITH AN ASTRONOMICAL ERA! There are many starting pitchers in the Tiger fold who
deserve a chance, but, the Tigers continue to bite the golden bullet with NATE.

On Thursday evening we will be once again hoping for the best for NATE ROBERTSON.

It’s interesting to note that last year, because of the Tiger’s poor pitching numbers,
the team couldn’t wait for the season to end before they gave the pitching coach his
walking papers. Now, if that’s true for pitching, why doesn’t that same concept apply
to their “poor” hitting numbers for 2009? Last Friday our TV announcers were heaping
accolades and compliments upon the hitting coaches shoulders. Why is this? Without
mentioning names here let it be known that our hitting coach is a dear sweet man.
However, there remains to be major problems with our hitters. History shows that four
of these hitters, GRANDERSON, ORDONEZ, GUILLEN and POLANCO are all hitting about
35 points BELOW THEIR NORMAL AVERAGES!

All that we’re saying is that if the pitching coach is judged by his pitchers performance,
then why not the hitting coach be judged lijkewise. Do we hear some opinions out there?
See our comnments box below for you to vent…and, we will answer each comment.
