When Baseball Was Fun

LOOK OUT FOR THAT BAT!!

As a farm boy I used to look out for real bats flying around out in the hay barn.
Today, however, baseball fans and players too, have to beware of splintered
baseball bats flying around every which way but loose!

WHAT IN THE WORLD IS GOING ON?

Jay Gibbons, a Baltimore Orioles outfielder claims that he orders a dozen bats a week.
TY COBB DIDN’T BREAK THAT MANY IN A YEAR!

Most players and coaches claim that most of the splintered bats happen with maple
bats. A lot more guys are using maple over the past few years. A few days ago at
Comerica a splintered bat nearly decapitated a lady fan. When the dust cleared it
appeared that the lady was actually thrilled at being able to acquire this fabulous
souvenir. SOUVENIR. The thing almost killed her!

But why, you ask, do players keep using these maple weapons of mass destruction?
Here’s the answer in a nutshell. Maple wood is denser and has a harder surface than
ash, leading players to believe that that combination of density and hardness will help
send the ball farther!!!

And that dear fans, is all that a MLB hitter needs to think….end of story, or is it?

WE SINCERELY BELIEVE THAT MLB SHOULD TAKE ACTION, before a player or a fan is
seriously injured. Now that should be the real end of the story.
