When Baseball Was Fun

Companion web site for the book and Detroit Tigers Quarterly

WELCOME WBWF SUBSCRIBERS!

We have published our new web site number in the WBWF fall quarterly that was mailed
over the weekend, so here’s a big welcome to them all!

MIGUEL CABRERA WAS A GIGANTIC STEAL!
Remember back a few years ago when so many people complained about trading away
our future when we traded the “CAN’T MISS” youngsters ANDREW MILLER and the five
star MAYBIN? Neither, as we write this, are even on the roster of the Florida Marlins.

Meanwhile the player we received in return is none other than THE BIG HORSE, MIGUEL
CABRERA. He is currently (8-30-09) hitting .338 with 27 homeruns, 82 rbi’s, 162 hits,
30 doubles and 77 runs scored. And along with Jeter, Grienke, Mauer and a few others
has entered into the AL Most Valuable Player sweepstakes.

If he continues on his current path with the Tigers he will be a future HALL-OF-FAME
candidate. AND THE TIGERS HAVE HIM UNDER CONTRACT UNTIL 2014!

So, was the BIG HORSE a “GIGANTIC STEAL”? We’ll let you decide.

Pardon us but Jim Leyland did it again yesterday with Marcus Thames in the lineup
as DH and Carlos Guillen riding the pines. In a 3-1 game who knows what this strategy
meant to the final outcome. Jim Leyland must have his reasons, but in our opinion he’s
riding a wounded horse in Thames, who’s BA is down to .244 with a whopping 59 K’s!
Oh yes, Marcus went hitless once more.
