In this morning’s Free Press (8-27-09) Lynn Henning is writing about a “big
moment” in Wednesday’s heart breaking 4-2 loss to the Angels when the “mighty
Cabrera” struck out and Polanco was thrown out at third, he says: “IT WAS
A BIG MOMENT. GET READY FOR LOTS MORE OVER THE NEXT FIVE WEEKS——-
IF YOU CAN STAND IT.” How about it? Can we?
“ROBERTSON RETURNS TO TIGERS’ ROTATION” (Detroit News) Most of you know how
WBWF feels about Nate Robertson. However, as my son likes to say: “he’s a Tiger”,
implying that we’ll have to grin and bear it. We have no problem with the grinning
part, but, we might have trouble with the bearing part.
Toledo has other starters, like Eddie Bonine, who deserve this shot more than Robert-
son…but, once again, MONEY TALKS”. The Tigers are paying Nate millions. End of story.
However, “seeing that he’s a Tiger” WE WILL BE PULLING FOR HIM!
In yesterday’s lineup Jim Leyland was up to his old tricks. He has Marcus Thames, who
is hitting .258 in the five hole, while for some unknown reason, Carlos Guillen is .sitting on
the bench. Since his return, Carlos is hitting just under .300 with SIX homeruns in a little
over a month. We would appreciate your comments below, but, don’t say that we’re
second guessing. As soon as we saw Thame’s name in the lineup we were screaming
at that crazy TV set!
Tony Paul, the Detroit News MLB columnist writes the following hillarious words about
the Tiger’s sad offense:
“I know, I know, the Tigers’ offense treats the sacrifice fly like
an urban legend, their hitters show the plate discipline of beer-
league softballers, and they’re so weary on the road you’d
think they were shacking up at $19.99-a-night highway side
motels.”
After reading Mr. Paul’s hittem-where-it-hurts short n’ sweet comments from
a true WORDSMITH, we’re simply SPEECHLESS!
