WBWF has come up with an amazing new statistic to measure how deep the
Tiger’s starting pitchers go in games. Coming out of spring training JIM LEYLAND
said: “Our success will largely depend on how deep our starters can go.”
We have faithfully kept the numbers and how the Tiger starters are doing is
amazing! They’re leading MLB in going deep!
Here’s how it works: you simply compile the number of innings pitched by the
starters and divide that by the number of games played.
Here’s how the Tiger starters look as of 8-1-09:
586.5 IP by 101 games = 5.806!
ALMOST SIX INNINGS PER START!
In case your wondering about the two horses of the staff, VERLANDER & JACKSON,
well wonder no longer. Here’s their amazing numbers:
JUSTIN VERLANDER, 143.6 IP by 22 games = 6.527 SGDA!
EDWIN JACKSON, 139.4 IP by 21 games = 6.638 SGDA!
Both of them are almost averaging 7 innings per game with JACKSON having a slight
lead. No other pitcher in MLB comes close to these two work horses.
JIM LEYLAND’S wish has come true, and, the Tigers are in first place. We contend that
the SGDA is the main reason why…now about those hitters??
