Tiger Clippings

UNBELIEVABLE! Writing about “Mags” Ordonez a Detroit Tiger’s beat writer actually referred to one of his home runs as a “Pop Fly”. We immediately emailed Lynn Henning with the news that never in the history of the game has there ever been a pop fly tater, unless it’s hit in the new Yankee Stadium, where cheap homers are a dime-a-dozen.

Not only doesn’t the late and great hall-of-fame, GEORGE KELL, have a statue at Comerica Park, his number #21 has not even been retired! What’s going on? Was this great ball player, announcer and human being invisible? Apparently to the present Tiger’s
hierarchy he must have been. Share your thoughts with us.

Who said: “When you get to a fork in the road ‘take it’ ” Hint, he was born in East St. Louis. And his initials are Y.B.

Here’s a great trivia question for around the water cooler or over the back fence…In 1937 the Tigers had FOUR players knock out over 200 hits, a record that will never be broken. WHO WERE THEY? HANK GREENBERG hit exactly 200. CHARLEY GEHRINGER
chipped in with 209, while PETE FOX had 208. But, “GEE” WALKER led them all with 213. That’s a grand total of 830! Not too shabby.
