“RED” BOROM, the oldest living Tiger at 95, shares some of his keen insights in this
WBWF exclusive. Borom, who now resides in Dallas, was born on October 30, 1915,
in Spartanburg, SC, and tells us that his first job as a yougster was delivering the ATLANTA
CONSTITUTION NEWSPAPER.
His sports hero growing up was: “JIMMY FOX, A GOOD ALL AROUND PLAYER AND A
POWER HITTER.”
When asked who his favorite all time Tiger was his response was: “CHARLEY GEHRINGER.
HE WAS MY FAVORITE IN A LAND SLIDE.”
His favorite baseball movie: “THE MONTE STRATTON STORY.”
“ANYTHING THAT I DON’T COOK.” is his favorite meal!!
And what would he change about baseball today? “ABOLISH THE DESIGNATED HITTER.
USE THE SQUEEZE PLAY MORE OFTEN AND HAND OUT FINES FOR SHOWBOATING AND
MISSING SIGNS.”
His answer to what he loves most about baseball? “THAT IT STILL EXISTS IN SPITE OF
ALL THE OUTLANDISH SALARIES!”
Borom says that his dream date “HASN’T BEEN BORN YET’ and that “DALLAS IS MY FAVORITE CITY.”
Then we asked him what he would do to improve the USA and he said: “PLACE A TIME
LIMIT FOR ALL ELECTED CONGRESS MEMBERS.”
Lastly, he answers the question about his greatest moment in baseball and his answer
really isn’t about him: “WHEN HANK GREENBERG HIT A BASES LOADED HOME RUN IN THE
9th INNING THAT PUT US INTO THE WORLD SERIES IN 1945.”
Which they won over the CUBS!
We at WBWF salute a great gentleman and subscriber:
MR. EDWARD ‘RED’ BOROM, also a WBWF GOLDEN SPONSOR!
